What is the best guitar solo?

Yesterday, the Seismic Audio Facebook page (are you a fan yet?) enjoyed a spirited discussion about the best guitar solo. We suggested Jimmy Page’s in Stairway to Heaven. Y’all came through fabulously. In no particular order, here are the best guitar solos, according to our fans:

  • Randy Rhodes’ solo in Revelation Mother Earth
  • Stevie Ray Vaughn in Texas Flood
  • Jeff Beck from Freeway Jam
  • Barry Goudreau
  • Stevie Ray Vaughn in Rude Mood (lots of SRV fans!)
  • Jimi Hendrix’s version of All Along the Watchtower
  • Gilmour’s solos in Comfortably Numb
  • Tipton in Beyond the Realms of Death
  • Ronnie Montrose in I Got the Fire
  • Dimebag on Floods
  • Hendrix in Voodoo Child
  • Tom Morello on Audioslave’s “Doesn’t Remind Me”
  • Prince in Purple Rain

If you want to make your own guitar solo, don’t forget to use Seismic Audio guitar cabinets.

How to Get Started on the Guitar

So you want to learn how to play the guitar? You’ve come to the right place. While Seismic Audio doesn’t sell guitars, we do sell all of the guitar cabinets, amps, and audio cables you will need to get started. Because of this, we are passionate about getting more people starting guitar, starting bands, and buying our gear.

Step 1: Choose a guitar
We won’t pretend to be the experts here, but when we asked experts, they suggested not spending less than $200 since cheaper guitar models are often more frustrating than the money you save. Going down to your friendly local guitar shop is probably the best way to get the best guitar for you.

Step 2: Buy a guitar cabinet
Here is where we are the experts. Our guitar cabinets are made with both the beginner and professional in mind. Seismic Audio guitar cabinets produce clear sound at any volume. Standard guitar cabinets include models with 2 or 4 speakers installed. We also sell empty guitar cabinets, which allow you to create your own mix of speakers.

Step 3: Buy Strings and Picks
At the same store where you bought your new guitar, the friendly sales-person should be able to suggest the right strings and picks for you.

Step 4 :Get to Know Tablature
Tablature is a system of musical notation by which finger positions are used to represent pitch rather than notes. If you learned to read music from childhood piano lessons, this form of musical notation is different and will take some getting used to.

Step 5: Get Music and Learn It
Once everything is tuned, learn a few easy pieces. If you can afford it, take a lesson or two or get a friend to talk you through some of the finer points.

Once you’re ready for a performance, stop by Seismic Audio for speakers, guitar cabinets, and audio cables.

How To Color Swirl A Guitar

Here is an awesome how to video on how to do a swirl-like paint job on your guitar. It is done by Tony Gayter (@theswirling) and he recommends a lot of practice before doing this paint job. (It took him over two months of practice to get it down.) He has a website in the works that will offer tutorials on these guitar paint jobs. It sure is neat how he makes them. Maybe we will have to make one! ;)

The finished product is awesome. What do you think of it?
